Cupping Therapy Sydney CBD
Cupping uses suction to lift the skin and fascia, drawing blood flow into tight or restricted tissue. We use dry cupping (stationary cups) and running cupping (cups glided over oiled skin) to release tension, ease pain and speed recovery, usually combined with massage.
How we use cupping
Cupping is one of the modalities our practitioners draw on once your assessment is done. Suction lifts the skin and underlying fascia instead of compressing it, which makes it useful for stubborn tightness across the upper back, shoulders, hips and thighs. We use two methods:
- Dry cupping. Stationary cups placed over tight areas for several minutes.
- Running cupping. Cups moved along oiled skin, following the length of the muscle, to combine suction with a sweeping massage effect.
Both are typically combined with remedial massage and, where useful, dry needling, so the whole chain of restricted tissue is treated in one session.
Who it suits
Clients with persistent upper back and shoulder tension from desk work, people recovering from heavy training, and anyone who finds deep manual pressure uncomfortable but still needs tight tissue released. Cupping is not used over broken skin, recent injuries with swelling, or for people with certain blood or skin conditions, so let us know your history.

Cupping FAQs
Will cupping leave marks?
Often, yes. Circular marks ranging from pink to dark purple are normal and fade within a few days to two weeks. They are not bruises in the usual sense and are not painful. Mention it if you have an event coming up and we can adjust.
What is the difference between dry and running cupping?
Dry cupping leaves stationary cups in place for a few minutes. Running cupping glides the cups over oiled skin along a muscle group, which works more like a deep massage stroke. Your therapist chooses based on the area and your goal.
Is cupping included in the appointment price?
Yes. Cupping is part of Active Performance Therapy and is included when your practitioner recommends it. Follow-up appointments start from $140.
